Introduction
Phoenix dactylifera, commonly known as the date palm, is an important fruit-bearing tree widely grown in Pakistan, India, and Middle Eastern countries. It is valued for its nutritive, tonic, and medicinal properties.
Botanical Description
Tree
- The tree resembles a palm or coconut tree
- It is tall, straight, and unbranched
- Leaves and fruits grow at the top (crown) of the tree
- Some small trees (about 4 feet) may grow but usually do not bear fruit
Leaves

- Many leaves arise from the top of the trunk
Fruit

- Oblong (elongated), almond-like in shape
- Smooth and fleshy
