Honey and Its Functions (Ear Health)

Introduction to Hearing
Allah Almighty has blessed us with the sense of hearing through our ears. Because of this blessing, we can hear different sounds such as buzzing, rustling, and ringing. The ear is a very delicate organ made up of small and sensitive parts that work together in a highly organized system.

Structure of the Ear
The human ear consists of three main parts: the outer ear, the middle ear, and the inner ear. In addition, the auditory nerve and the hearing center in the brain are essential for the process of hearing. The ears are located on both sides of the head, oval in shape, and made of soft, flexible cartilage.

Function of the Outer and Middle Ear
The outer ear collects sound waves from the environment and directs them into the ear canal. These waves strike the eardrum (tympanic membrane), causing it to vibrate. Behind the eardrum are three tiny bones connected like a chain, which transmit these vibrations further into the ear.

The middle ear is connected to the throat through the Eustachian tube, which helps regulate air pressure and remove excess mucus. When this tube becomes blocked, especially during colds, the ears may feel heavy and hearing may be affected.

Inner Ear and Hearing Mechanism
The inner ear has a complex structure called the labyrinth, which includes the cochlea (a snail-shaped structure) and semicircular canals. These parts are filled with special fluids. Vibrations from the middle ear create waves in these fluids, stimulating tiny hair-like structures. These signals are then transmitted through the auditory nerve to the brain, where they are interpreted as sound.

Role in Balance
The semicircular canals of the inner ear also help maintain body balance and coordination.

Care and Protection of the Ear
The eardrum is extremely delicate and must be protected from injury. Inserting objects such as sticks, pencils, or other sharp items into the ear can damage it and lead to hearing loss. Children’s ears are especially sensitive, as their eardrums are still developing.

Excessive earwax, exposure to cold, or infections can cause pain and discomfort. In such cases, it is important to avoid self-treatment and seek medical advice. If any discharge or fluid comes from the ear, immediate treatment is necessary to prevent serious complications.

Honey and Its Benefits for Ear Health
Honey has long been considered a natural remedy and is used in traditional medicine for various ear conditions. It is believed to have antibacterial properties that help reduce harmful microorganisms and support healing. In some traditional practices, honey is used to relieve pain, reduce infections, and improve certain ear conditions.

However, due to the sensitive nature of the ear, any treatment—especially involving liquids—should be used with caution. Consulting a qualified healthcare professional is always recommended before applying any substance to the ear.

Ear discharge:

Ingredients: Camphor, mint, celery, carbolic acid, glycerin, almond oil, and pure honey, one tola each.

Preparation: Mix camphor, mint, celery, and carbolic acid in a bottle and keep it in a shady place for two to three weeks. Do not forget to close the bottle tightly. These ingredients will automatically become oil, which is called a “healing elixir” by the sages. After this, take pure honey, glycerin, and almond oil and mix them with six dashes of healing elixir and put them in another bottle and shake them well so that all the ingredients become one. When necessary, put ten drops from this bottle in a spoon and warm it slightly and put five drops in both ears at night while sleeping. Using it clears the soreness, and using it for two to three days stops the flow of pus from the ear.

The no-nonsense recipe for dissolving ear odors:

Ingredients: One masha of Lahori salt, three masha of Anzorot, and one tola of pure honey.

Preparation: Finely grind the salt and sugar and mix them well in the honey and store them in a clean bottle. When needed, take out ten drops of it and put it in a spoon, heat it, and put five drops in both ears at night while sleeping. This removes the wind from the ears and stops the ringing in the ears.

A recipe for ear ringing:

Ingredients: Half a cup of Qalmi Shora and six cups of pure honey.

Preparation: Grind Qalmi Shora into powder and mix well with honey. Use it fresh. At the time of use, add it to a little water and warm it up and then pour equal amounts into both ears. This removes the ringing in the ears for no reason and strengthens the hearing. Use this recipe only in case of illness. It is a fast-acting medicine.

A simple recipe for healing ear wounds:

If a wound develops inside the ear for any reason and pus flows out and there is severe pain in the ear, then it is very useful to warm honey and put five drops in the ear. The wound heals in just three days, and the pus stops flowing.

A quick and targeted recipe for ear wounds:

Ingredients: Half a tola of oil seeds, one tola of pure honey, and a pinch of anise.

First, soak an old cotton swab in honey and place it in the ear to clean the wound. Then mix neem seed oil and honey together, dip the cotton swab in it, and gently insert it into the ear. This will clean the ear and help the wound heal. Then, soak a new cotton swab in honey, sprinkle some Anzarut Saeeda on it, and place it in the ear; this will heal the wound.

A wonderful recipe for earache:

Ingredients: One tola of pure honey and one tola of purified water from goat’s milk.

Preparation: Mix these two ingredients well in a bottle.

Put one to three drops in the painful ear a few times a day. This is a wonderful medicine for earaches. Remember that it should not be made in large quantities because it spoils quickly.
