Introduction

Botanical Description
The camel thorn is a low-growing shrub, typically reaching 1–2 feet in height. It is characterized by its dense branching and sharp thorns.

- Thorns are sharp, measuring about 1.5–2 inches long
- These thorns protect the plant in harsh environments
Leaves
- Leaves are small, narrow, and slightly rounded
- They grow near the base of the thorns
- Delicate in texture and sparse in distribution

- They are small and grow along the branches
Pods and Seeds
- Pods are about 5 inches long
- Shape: Straight or slightly curved and knotted
- Each pod contains 5–6 small seeds

Gum (Manna)
This plant produces a natural gum known as “Taranjabeen” (manna).
- Appears as tear-shaped droplets
- Taste:
- Initially sweet like sugar
- Later becomes slightly astringent
- In modern markets, sweetened versions are available, often prepared with sugar or jaggery

Varieties
There is another closely related type called Dhamansah:

- Considered by many traditional scholars to be the same species
