Because of its astringent and drying properties, it is added to various ointments. It is traditionally used to cleanse and dry wounds and to help stop bleeding.
Because of its drying properties, it is also traditionally used for tuberculosis and Nafsat al-Dam (coughing or spitting of blood). It may be incorporated into compound medicinal preparations or used alone.
