Hemiptera (Tighal)

Introduction

Hemiptere is described as an insect resembling a fly that constructs a casing or nest from its saliva, similar to the way a silkworm produces its cocoon. This insect is known as Tighal.

When the nest is fresh, it has a sweet taste; however, as it ages, its sweetness gradually diminishes.

Temperament

Moderate in relation to heat and cold, but inclined toward moisture.

Actions

Traditionally, Hemiptera is described as

  • Demulcent—soothing and protective to irritated tissues.
  • Pectoral laxative—traditionally used to relieve dryness and irritation of the respiratory passages.

Excessive use may cause nausea and relaxation or weakness of the stomach.

Traditional Uses

Because of its demulcent and pectoral properties, hemiptere is traditionally used to relieve the roughness of the trachea and dryness of the esophagus. It is also described as beneficial for esophageal inflammation and dry cough.

It is traditionally used for hoarseness and dryness of the throat and may be taken alone or combined with other medicinal ingredients in syrups or honey-based preparations.

Specific Benefit

It is traditionally used to treat throat dryness and dry cough.

Harmful Effects

Excessive use may cause nausea.
