Many people begin to show signs of aging at a young age, such as wrinkles and dull skin. Sheikh al-Raees Ibn Sina stated that honey has remarkable effects in maintaining youthful and healthy skin, even in old age. With regular use of honey, the natural attractiveness of the face can be preserved.
In the work of the Hindu yogi ascetic Padma Narayan, titled Ranga Ranga, various methods for enhancing beauty are described, many of which emphasize the use of honey. He highlights its importance in maintaining long-lasting beauty and vitality. According to him, except for congenital conditions, consistent use of these remedies can significantly improve one’s appearance without the need for artificial cosmetics.
Some of his recommended practices include:
- Drink milk daily, consume honey regularly, and include seasonal fruits in your diet.
- Apply honey as a face mask, leave it on for some time, and then wash it off with plain cold water.
- Mix honey with olive oil and apply it to the face. Leave the mask on for about two hours, then wash the face with lukewarm water infused with boiled neem leaves.
It is also said that historical figures like Cleopatra and Helen of Troy used similar remedies to maintain their beauty. Additionally, traditional texts such as Kama Shastra mention that figures like Goddess Diwali and Padmini used related treatments, sometimes substituting olive oil with castor oil.
Honey for Beauty and Skin Care
Apply honey to the face and wash it off with milk after two hours.
It is mentioned in many books that the beautiful Queen of Egypt, Cleopatra, used to bathe in a mixture of olive oil, honey, and milk to maintain her beauty. It is said that her careful and attentive maids would apply a mixture of olive oil and honey to her entire body—from face to feet—after which she would bathe for several hours in a pool filled with milk.
Using honey with cucumber enhances the complexion of the body, making the face fresh and radiant. When cucumber is grated, mixed with honey, and applied to the face as a mask, it produces remarkable results, leaving the skin glowing and refreshed. This mask is similar to traditional remedies where people used substances like sugar or clay on the body or face during summer to treat heat rash or boils.
Importance of Mineral Salts in Beauty
Mineral salts play a very important role in enhancing beauty. Their deficiency can negatively affect the appearance and balance of both the face and body. The human body requires a variety of salts to remain healthy, which are obtained from different foods. These include common salt, calcium, magnesium, potassium, chlorine, carbon, iron, and others. A brief explanation of their importance is given below:
Calcium
Calcium plays a vital role in the formation of new bones and the repair of old ones. It also contributes to facial harmony and beauty and helps strengthen teeth, increasing their lifespan. Besides honey, sources of calcium include milk, cheese, apples, apricots, figs, and grapes.
Magnesium
Magnesium improves skin complexion and helps prevent acne. Other sources include milk, cheese, apples, apricots, figs, grapes, carrots, and onions.
Potassium
Potassium helps maintain skin freshness and gives the face a natural glow. It is found in milk, cheese, apples, apricots, figs, grapes, carrots, lemons, salads, juices, olives, soybeans, and eggs.
Chlorine
Chlorine helps eliminate excess fat from the body and aids digestion by cleansing the intestines. It is present in green vegetables, eggs, olives, cheese, milk, plums, radishes, tomatoes, and butter.
Carbon
Carbon helps maintain body heat and plays a role in purifying the blood. Its sources include grapes, peas, apples, dates, potatoes, onions, cucumbers, peaches, almonds, coconuts, lettuce, tomatoes, and wheat.
Iron
Iron is one of the most essential elements. Even a slight deficiency can cause dark circles under the eyes. It increases the number of red blood cells, gives a healthy redness to the face and body, and helps regulate body temperature. Sources of iron include liver, apples, apricots, eggs, fish, lettuce, onions, spinach, carrots, radishes, plums, cheese, pineapple, pumpkin, cucumbers, dates, oranges, olives, grapes, wheat, and beets.
From the above explanation, it is clear how essential these mineral salts are for the human body and how they contribute significantly to beauty. It is indeed a blessing of Allah Almighty that many of these beneficial elements are found together in honey, making it a valuable natural source for maintaining both health and beauty.
Among natural products widely used for maintaining beauty and healthy skin, cucumber, ginger, papaya, eggs, ghee, and honey are at the top. All of these have proven highly beneficial for human health and beauty. However, among them, honey holds a special place and has been made essential for humans by Allah Almighty.

Honey is commonly consumed as food, yet many people remain unaware of its medicinal value for beauty and health. It is generally regarded as a food or drink, often used as a tonic and for promoting longevity. However, in Unani medicine, honey is considered both a valuable food and an excellent medicine for internal as well as external use. Traditional physicians commonly recommend it for removing skin blemishes, healing wounds, and treating burns.
Modern research has also confirmed that honey not only has internal tonic effects but also provides significant external benefits. Especially in the treatment of burns, honey helps soften the skin and provides a soothing effect. It has been found to possess antibacterial properties and is easily absorbed into the smallest pores when applied to the skin.
Honey not only nourishes the skin but also cleanses impurities, leaving it soft, smooth, and radiant like that of a baby. The vitamins and minerals present in honey help repair damaged skin cells, protect them, and create a natural glow, enhancing the clarity of the complexion.
A Golden Recipe for Skin Rejuvenation
If you are serious about improving your skin and giving it a fresh, attractive look, regular use of honey is essential.
First, wash your face with lukewarm water and a good-quality soap. Comb your hair back to fully expose your forehead and temples. Take one spoonful of honey in a bowl and apply it evenly over your face using your fingertips, ensuring that no part of the neck, forehead, or temples is left uncovered.
While applying honey, move your fingers gently from bottom to top (chin to forehead). Once the layer is evenly spread, massage it lightly so that it is absorbed into the skin. After absorption, leave your face uncovered. After about one hour, wash your face gently with plain water.
Within a day or two, you will begin to notice a visible improvement in your skin.
A Remedy for the Harmful Effects of Makeup
If avoiding makeup is not possible, honey can be used to reduce its harmful effects. It works effectively as a natural cleanser, toner, and restorative treatment.
Take a cup of lukewarm water and add one spoon of honey and one spoon of vinegar. Mix well. If available, add blackcurrant or grape juice for better results.
First, remove your makeup completely and clean your face with a soft cloth to remove any oily residue. Then apply the prepared solution to your face and gently rub it in using your hands (avoid using a cloth to prevent skin damage). Clean your neck as well.
This process helps protect the skin from the damaging effects of makeup.
An Effective Remedy for Wrinkles
Honey also contains a natural remedy for reducing premature wrinkles, which commonly appear around the eyes, lips, forehead, and neck.
Take one spoonful of honey and mix it with two spoonfuls of fine flour to form a smooth paste. Wash and dry your face thoroughly. Apply the mixture gently to the wrinkled areas using your fingers, ensuring it is well absorbed.
Avoid pulling or stretching the skin. Apply gently and massage softly. After applying, rub the skin lightly using your palms in upward and downward motions to improve blood circulation.
Continue this process for 15–20 minutes daily, then wash your face with lukewarm water. With consistent use over a few weeks, noticeable improvement can be seen.
A Powerful Remedy for Freckles and Acne
People with oily skin often develop blackheads, which can worsen into freckles and reduce the skin’s beauty. Proper cleansing is essential to keep the pores open and free from impurities.
For such individuals, an effective honey-based remedy is as follows:
Take two tablespoons of honey and mix it with one and a half tablespoons of lemon juice. Apply this mixture to the face and neck and leave it on for about 20 minutes. Then wash with lukewarm water.
This mixture penetrates deep into the skin, opens clogged pores, and removes impurities. Both honey and lemon have antibacterial properties that help eliminate the bacteria responsible for acne and skin blemishes.
A Unique Recipe for Enhancing Beauty
Another excellent mixture for enhancing beauty is prepared using honey and almonds. This combination gives a fresh glow to the skin and significantly improves overall appearance. Its importance is highlighted by the fact that when some of the most beautiful women in the world were asked about the secret of their beauty, many mentioned the regular use of this mixture. This recipe has been in use since ancient times.
The method of preparation is as follows:
Take 50 grams of pure waxy honey and place it in a vessel. Heat it gently over a low flame until it becomes liquid. Remove it from the heat and strain it through a fine cloth. If the honey solidifies again during straining, gently reheat it.
Next, add 60 mg of Rogan Badam Shireen (sweet almond oil) and mix thoroughly. Once both are well combined, add another 50 grams of pure honey and heat the mixture again on a low flame while stirring continuously to ensure complete blending. Store the prepared mixture in clean bottles.
Apply this honey and almond cream to the face and neck at night, just like a cold cream, and allow it to absorb into the skin. It can also be applied to the hands and legs. In Europe, similar preparations are often used as body lotions.
In the morning, wash your face with a mild soap. If used on the body, it is preferable to take a bath. This cream is highly effective, especially in winter, and is often better than expensive cold creams. During summer, when the skin becomes red and inflamed due to strong sunlight (sunburn), this cream provides a soothing and cooling effect. It keeps the skin soft, smooth, and attractive.
Remedy for Sunburn
In summer, excessive heat, sweat, and dust often cause skin irritation and inflammation, commonly known as sunburn. Although many commercial creams are available, honey-based remedies are highly effective.
To prepare this remedy, take 50 grams of pure honey and mix it with an equal amount of oatmeal or besan (gram flour). Mix thoroughly until a thick paste is formed. Apply this paste to the affected areas and leave it on for 15–20 minutes, then wash with plain water.
If the irritation is severe, apply the mixture at night and wash it off in the morning. This remedy provides immediate relief from burning sensations and soothes the skin effectively.
Another Effective Recipe for Wrinkles
Another useful preparation made from honey helps improve skin tone, soften the skin, and reduce premature wrinkles. However, it should be stored in a refrigerator or freezer, as it does not tolerate high temperatures.
Ingredients:
- One ounce of honey
- One tablespoon of fresh lemon juice
- Two egg whites
- One and a half tablespoons of almond oil
Mix all the ingredients thoroughly in a clean container. Then gradually add oatmeal or besan while stirring until a thick paste is formed—thick enough to stay on the face without dripping.
Apply this paste immediately after preparation and leave it on for about 30 minutes. Avoid touching or disturbing the face during this time. Afterward, wash your face with lukewarm water.
This mixture tightens the skin, reduces unnecessary looseness, minimizes wrinkles, and enhances the complexion, leaving the skin brighter and smoother.
Important Instruction
While using these remedies, it is important to remember that many skin problems—such as wrinkles, discoloration, roughness, or dullness—are often caused by internal health issues.
These may include nutritional deficiencies or imbalances in the body. In such cases, external remedies alone may provide only temporary or limited benefits. Therefore, it is essential to address underlying health conditions as well, so that these treatments can produce lasting and effective results.
